Market Comparison

Market Known Brand Against Kang Bao Bird's Nest:

In this section, we have bought a box of bird's nest from a well known brand and the cost of the nest is sold at $220.00/Tael(37.5g).

The initial looks of the nest is yellowish and have a "salted fish" smell rather than the normal "raw egg" smell. The convex surface of the nest is broken and houses many "holes". This is due to the early harvesting. These nests are usually 1 month old and therefore having a lot of uncomplete strands which during the washing process, causes it to fall off the surface.

Such nests are usually sold at a lower price as it does not look astectically presentable on outlooks when presented as gifts. However, similar grade's nests are sold at a much premium price.

Apart from the cost and the smell, as we compare the physical outlook of both pieces, take note of the yellowish area behind of the nest. Those are actually edible adhesive attaching crumbs of the nests which have fallen off during the washing process. It is done so to give the nest more mass, however the money paid for is inclusive of the unwanted edible adhesive. As for Kang Bao Bird's Nest, we do not add in additional additives so that the nest's mass would be more presentable on a weighing scale. We stand firm on our quality and assurance to consumers.

Size and Weight Comparision:
We will compare between the weight of 1 piece of Kang Bao Bird's Nest to the market's brand. The first noticable difference is the size of the nests when left beside each other. The size is almost half of our nest and their nest seems thinner than our's.

To prove that size does not matters, we proceed to weigh our nest against theirs. The results yield were rather interesting, 1 Kang Bao Bird's Nest to 2 Market's Nests. Therefore, this test so far proves that size does matters.

Soaking and Post Cooked:
The soaking process is set at approxiamtely 2 hours and a detailed view of the whole process is being captured by camera. It is viewable at: http://www.facebook.com/kangbaobirdnest

After soaking for 2 hours, the difference are greater than we anticipated. As there are a lot of broken strands on the market's nest, the soaking process actually made the nest brittle and breaking up into a few pieces.

Notice that the pieces actually broken up into different sections and the previously mentioned "yellowish" area with the edible adhesive now looks like the "pig skin" we know of. Such is the quality mentioned in shops today claiming to be of Grade B.

Height here is also observed and a simple measurement from the ruler could show the difference of both quality. The picture also shows how the "pig skin" area looks like from close-up. It looks like 2 different types of nests have been used here to form a single piece.

The finished product of the market's nest looks like this. The nests appeared brittle and have already broken up into smaller pieces even before we start to stir it. The thing about quality bird's nest is that it should not break easily even after cooking and would remain in strands of whole. That would be an assurance in quality. The market standards of quality bird's nests so far are questionable as compared to Kang Bao Bir'ds Nest. Therefore, why hesistate to try us out?
